Thermoformable Ice Hockey Skates – Info & Guide
Thermoformable ice hockey skates from Bauer, CCM and Graf offer a custom fit and improved comfort. Many players do not know that thermo skates also adjust naturally while skating, as heat and friction mould them to the foot. This means they fit better over time, even without baking.
To speed up the process, you can bake your skates at home in a standard oven. This “skate baking” makes the material soft and allows it to adapt perfectly to your foot, reducing pressure points and increasing stability on the ice.
How to bake your skates at home
- Open your skates wide and leave the top eyelet undone for easy entry.
- Preheat your oven to 80–90 °C, then switch it off. Remove laces, especially if waxed.
- Place the skates in the oven for 5–8 minutes depending on stiffness.
- Put them on carefully while seated and lace them up from the side.
- Sit still for about 30 minutes without walking or putting weight on the skates.
Important notes
- Do not use your skates for at least 24 hours after baking.
- Returns are not possible after thermoforming.
- Always follow manufacturer instructions (Bauer, CCM, Graf).
